The 7.5 billion humans on this Earth are more connected than ever before. Technology has collapsed the physical boundaries between people. We are now able to communicate using many digital connections. The communication tools at our disposal include the telephone, Skype, text, twitter, email, chat rooms and social media (e.g. Facebook).

CEO activism

It was an unusual squabble. In one corner, was the CEO of Qantas, Alan Joyce. In the other, was Australia’s immigration minister, Peter Dutton. The issue which saw them trade blows was the same-sex marriage debate. Joyce threw his company’s support behind the Yes campaign. Dutton criticised Joyce for using his position at the iconic airline to fly his own agenda.

Money history

We all have our funny little ways. One of my idiosyncrasies is a desire to know the history of things. History is inescapable as the present will never be free of the influence of the past. Everywhere you look, you find examples of living history. From the inherited languages we speak, to the ancient traditions we follow, to the modern versions of bygone technology we use, history links the past to the present.

Tenth blogiversary

This Sunday, I celebrate 10 years as a blogger. I published my first blog post on 25 March 2008 and had absolutely no inkling that blogging would become such an integral part of my career. I’m also stunned that it has spawned two books with another - Bite Size Advice 3 - due to be released later in the year.

Population clock

Sometimes my mind wanders and I find myself pondering the most unusual things. It happened again recently when, out of the blue, a thought popped into my head about global population. I suddenly found myself subconsciously asking: How many humans have ever been born?
