Office relocation

Attention: open in a new window. Print

Over the weekend, Gateway moved offices. We didn’t move far – just two blocks away at 68 York Street, Sydney. As this post is published, we are busily unpacking boxes and trying to settle in to our new digs as quickly as possible. We are surrounded by an orderly clutter which we hope to clear by the end of the day.

Let me assure you that moving office isn’t as straightforward as moving to a new house, but everything has run smoothly so far. The office design started with a blank sheet of paper and - with the help of a fabulous architect (thanks Steve Fitts!) and a very capable project team - we have seamlessly achieved every milestone.

Our new office will help streamline our business and facilitate enhanced member service. It will feature a modern member reception area, private meeting rooms, Internet banking terminals and a state-of-the-art call centre. From a staff perspective, the new premises will dramatically improve the working environment and provide a real boost to everyone.

The internal layout has been kept open to bring in as much natural light as possible. However, for some reason, the move committee insisted that the CEO be given an office. I reluctantly accepted and so from today I am writing to you from the corner office overlooking George Street. Yep, it’s tough at the top!

I know from previous experience how morale boosting a successful move can be and I’m hoping for a similar outcome this time. An office relocation is a golden opportunity to refresh things for staff and provide more productive and modern facilities. I am confident that our employees will reap the benefits of our well-planned move.

Certainly, both members and staff will benefit from easier access to transport links. Our new office is closer to major bus routes and Town Hall railway station. Moreover, our new building backs on to George Street which means that the yet-to-be-completed Sydney light rail will run right pass our new office.

The floor plates in the 68 York Street building are much smaller than the floor plates in our previous location at 2 Market Street. This has enabled us to lease an entire floor, rather than sharing a floor with another tenant, as we previously did. By having exclusive use of one whole floor, we will benefit from added privacy and enhanced physical security.

We have used the relocation exercise as an opportunity to declutter. Much like when a family moves home, a business should also throw out stuff it does not need. In our case, we have moved some activities off site and have reduced the number of paper files through document scanning.

Our new street address is Level 10, 68 York Street, Sydney. We have retained our existing 1300 302 474 phone number, email addresses, fax number and individual direct dial numbers.

Our new home represents another huge leap forward for Gateway. We’re at a very exciting stage in our development and evolution. The investment in new purpose-built premises underscores our optimism for the future.

If you’re passing by, just pop in – we look forward to welcoming you.

Regards,
Paul J. Thomas, CEO
